Advice from United agent: Walking is not so bad for you

Here I am, sitting in the United pop up lounge by gate 124 at Newark airport, slightly dismayed at the health advice proffered to me by Dr United Lounge Attendant.  This young lady, whose job it is to sit all day and check in guests, advices me that walking is actually good for me.  Her opportunity to advice came up when I asked her, would there be a new regular United lounge closer to the new Polaris lounge?

This question came up because United recently decided to convert the regular United lounge in the main concourse of C terminal to Polaris lounge.  Polaris lounge is only available to regular United flyers if one is flying international in Polaris class.  So, now regular United flyers like me have to go to the lounge close to Gate 74 or Gate 124 to enjoy the amenities.  This ends up being a significant inconvenience if your gate is any where other than close to 74 or 124, which was the case this morning (Gate 107).

Reality is, good advice for the charming United lounge attendant not withstanding, it is an inconvenience to have to walk 10mins to get to a lounge and another 10 mins to walk to the gate, esp when one is in a hurry.  And mind you, I am paying $450 per year for the “privilege” of lounge access through my United Presidential Plus Master Card.

Recently I received the offer for a Chase Sapphire Card, which offers similar lounge benefits.  So I think I might just drop the United Presidential Plus, since I cant have convenient club access, which was an important reason for my decision to use the card in the first place.
